About Us

The Albany Police Department was established in 1851 and has served as the primary law enforcement agency within the capital of New York. By working together with the community of Albany we aim to eliminate both crime itself and the fear of crime. The APD has multiple specialized divisions, each division is tasked with maintaining order by focusing on specific aspects of policing. The APD patrol division consists of the faces of our department, they are tasked with maintaining peace by patroling around the capital. The APD Detective Unit is a specialized unit which is in charge of investigating crime scenes. The APD SWAT Unit is tasked with defusing high-risk situations whilst maintaining the safest environment possible. Together these divisions are committed to upholding integrity and safety.
